Variational Algorithms on a Hybrid Quantum / Classical Computer

I will start with a high-level overview of the design of Rigetti’s hybrid quantum/classical computation architecture.

I’ll go into a bit of detail on a selection design problems and features. In particular, I’ll explain how the design is optimized for near-term variational algorithms. Finally, I’ll talk about recent proposals for variational algorithms that have been tested on Rigetti computers.

The scientific seminar will be followed by a careers discussion with the speaker


John Lapeyre is an ICFO alumnus who worked as a Senior Research Fellow in the Quantum Optics Theory group with ICREA Prof. Maciej Lewenstein from 2009-2015, followed by continued collaborations with ICFO through 2017. He is now working at Rigetti Computing in Berkeley, California as a Quantum Engineer.
