Commemorating the Stonewall riots in June 1969 that started the LGBTQ+ rights movement, we are pleased to announce the first celebration of the Pride month at ICFO!

Throughout the month of June, the entire ICFO community is invited to participate in talks and workshops to discuss and learn more about the situation of LGBTQ+ people in STEM.

Bio and Abrstract:
Aitor Villafranca is a researcher at the Institute of Optics, CSIC, Madrid and founding member of PRISMA, the Association for Affective, Sexual and Gender Diversity in Science, Technology and Innovation. PRISMA’s aim is to fight discrimination and improve visibility for LGBTQ+ people in STEM. Aitor has been working for years in shining a light on this kind of inequalities in schools and the academic environment, and will present the current state of the situation and recomendations for scientific institutions like ours to keep moving in the right direction.

What challenges do LGBTQIA+ professionals face in STEM environments? How can we help reduce discrimination and inequality? Where can we find support networks and inclusive events? We will discuss these topics with representatives from PRISMA, association for gender and sexoaffective diversity in Science, Technology and Innovation.
