AlGaAs Quantum Photonics: from Quantum Communications to On-Chip State Engineering

Integrated quantum photonics is one of the main routes towards the realization of scalable quantum information processing. Landmark applications range from quantum computation and simulation of molecular systems to secure communications. Here, we present recent results based on the AlGaAs semiconductor platform which is particularly well suited for the on-chip generation and manipulation of entangled photons. We start by explaining the working principle behind our integrated AlGaAs source of telecom-wavelength photon pairs. Then we show how we can take advantage of the broad spectral bandwidth and high fidelity of the emitted polarization-entangled state to build a reconfigurable wavelength-multiplexed quantum communication network. Lastly, we report on our latest experiments about monolithic integration of a source and a broadband polarizing mode splitter which opens the way towards on-chip generation of hyper-entangled states.
