Spin Excitations in a Coherently Coupled Sodium Binary Condensate

Two-component condensates of sodium allow the study of dissipationless spin dynamics that is separated from the density one thanks to its much lower energy. Thanks to their low energy, the spin channel supports solitary non-dispersive waves (Magnetic Solitons) with long lifetime.

Thanks to a novel experimental apparatus, we can introduce a coherent coupling between the components with energy comparable to the one of spin excitations. The spin dynamics changes radically and can mimic a magnetic material with spatially inhomogeneous magnetic anisotropy. Two different dynamical regimes naturally develop, separated by a sharp magnetic interface that then breaks creating highly energetic magnetic waves.
