Spin-Orbit Coupling and Selection Rules in Nonlinear Wave Mixing with Structured Light

We will discuss the role played by different photonic degrees of freedom in nonlinear wave mixing both in free space and inside an optical parametric oscillator cavity. The cross talk between spin and orbital angular momentum in frequency up-conversion leads to interesting effects, allowing for polarization controlled processes that can be useful both in classical and quantum devices. The investigation of the spin-orbit cross talk in nonlinear wave mixing is inspired by the formal equivalence between entangled quantum states and nonseparable polarization-spatial modes that correspond to the so called "vector beams".
